Port of Los Angeles
1997
Griffith Company constructed this gateway project on State Route 47 as part of the Port’s $700 million Pier 300/400 Development Program. Twenty-six months of construction were compressed into fourteen, with a penalty of $49,000 for each day milestones missed. The project was completed ahead of schedule. The work included two large highway bridges, almost two miles of forty-foot elevated roadway retained with mechanically stabilized earth walls, hazardous material remediation and relocation of every major utility including sewer, water, storm drain, electrical and telephone. The project received the “Build America Award” from the Associated General Contractors of America for the best highway project of the year. It also received the Associated General Contractors of California “Constructor Award” for Excellence in Project Management. Griffith Company’s construction knowledge, project management organization, and a commitment to partnering made this project successful.
