Baldwin Hills
2020
This last and most difficult segment of the Park to Playa Trail connects thirteen miles of pedestrian and bike trails extending from Baldwin Hills to the Ballona Creek outfall at the Pacific Ocean in Playa Del Rey. The design-build project provides direct access from Kenneth Hahn State Recreational Area to the Stoneview Nature Center across the busy arterial, La Cienega Boulevard.
During the proposal stage Griffith worked closely with LACDPW staff and other project stakeholders to provide alternative bridge designs to meet budgetary constraints. The project team provided value engineering in various elements of the conceptual plans including type of bridge, steel material used, foundations, grading and landscaping. The weathered steel truss bridge offers access for pedestrians and bicycles while providing a natural wildlife crossing with a meandering planter with California native plants in which wildlife could hide.
Our project provided jobs for the immediate residents and will provide access to increased outdoor recreation for the community for years to come. Griffith, as the design-builder, developed a collaborative team environment that met all the project goals- innovative design, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and community involvement. We provided a beautiful pedestrian bridge project that is sensitive to the environment and will be a focal point for recreation for years to come.
